As a CFD Engineer (fixed-time contract) tasks revolved around the code optimization (making the program faster) of the compressible NS Solver at the Aerodynamics Energy and Propulsion lab at ISAE-SUPAERO ('Département Aérodynamique Énergétique et Propulsion' at the 'Institut Supérieur de l'Aéronautique et de l'Espace'). Skills include C++ - MPI - MKL - BLAS - NVIDIA CUDA - Fluid Simulation - Physics.

Internship Co-Director
Gaston Mazzei worked in the lab for 4 months on improving the performance of our fluid mechanics solver.

During this time Gaston managed to understand our massively parallelized C++/MPI solver which consists of tens of thousands of lines. He managed to find ways to improve the performance of our CPU-based solver and even successfully tried it on GPUs quantifying the improvement we could get if we transferred all the code to GPU.

Gaston went beyond the objectives of the internship. He was very helpful to the team and presented his results in a pedagogical way to the other interns/PhD students.

I would recommend Gaston without hesitation.

During 4 months of the 'Quantum Computing 2021/22 Fellowship' in Paris I was an intern at the VENICE (Virtual & Augmented Reality) Laboratory where I implemented physics-related applications on embedded systems. Skills learnt include AI for computer vision and human-computer interaction.

Gaston was an internship student in our VENIES team between February and April 2022. I was extremely happy with Gaston's work and would have loved to hire him as a PhD student but it did not work out for him due to private reasons.

During the internship I could observe Gaston's great attitude as well as impressive technical skills.

Gaston has deep knowledge of mathematics combined with fluency in programming as well as dev-ops. A rare combination! During his short internship he managed to develop a tricky prototype for Snap's Spectacles (2021) using a custom SDK provided by Snap Inc. He wrapped up the project nicely with useful and clean documentation.

As a Network Automation & Optimization Engineer at Iquall Networks my role was to both model networks using NoSQL databases and to design implement and test algorithms using Python and C++ in order to provide automated solutions to international telecommunication companies inside propietary software. Physics Machine Learning Developer (internship) feb 2020 - dec 2020
During the almost 1-year-long research internship at ICAS (the International Center for Advanced Studies) several machine-learning topics were learnt from the renowed High Energy Physics researcher Dr. Ezequiel Alvarez. As part of the Institute's transfer of technology mandate as well as my own personal Master's thesis the website AI-Friendly.com was made: it consists of a free online customizable neural network to tackle binary classification problems.

During the Part-Time Jr. B.I. job at an alpine-styled and medium-sized four-star hotel (~100 employees and ~4k guests per month) in the Argentina's southern Patagonia region data was collected and executive reports were produced on a monthly basis. Vainilla sections of the reports included occupation and cash flow charts; more exotic ones were such as machine-learning-assisted proposals of relevant market variables (unsupervised learning). In the context of the Hotel's (successfull) attempts to certify its eco-friendliness and reduce its carbon footprint is that metrics were collected and analyzed for the daily temperature and the monthly gas and electric consumption (extract of the report).

I was Gaston's instructor in the graduate course 'Robust Distributed Algorithms' which he took at Université Paris-Saclay in 2021. His performance in class was impressive and among the top of the class. One can thus conclude that he is able to absorb and reproduce complex theoretical subject matters.
This would sell his true drive and abilities considerably short. Much more impressively than his in-class performance is what he chose to do in addition to that: completely unprompted from my side he designed and implemented multiple simulators based on concepts seen in class. Their implementation is excellent and their design makes them very useful; I will be happy to use them for illustration purposes in courses in the future.
